History
The Rhondda Crime Prevention Panel was formed in the late 1980’s and amongst its earliest members were Mr. Ron Hughes M.B.E., Cllr. Kate Rees, Supt. D.B.Davies, Mr. Elwyn Jones and Mrs. Marie Evans. It was financed by grants from the Rhondda Borough Council. Its main activities were purchasing door and window locks which were delivered by the members at weekends to senior citizens and in some cases even fitting them!
In November 2002 we were fortunate to receive a grant of £243,704.00 from the Community Fund (Lottery) and the activities of the panel changed dramatically. We set up a scheme called Rectify and employed a Project Officer, a Lock Fitter and an administrator. The scheme provides physical security to domestic properties throughout the Rhondda Valleys. We can supply and fit door locks, window locks, door viewers, door chains and smoke alarms all free of charge. We also do other projects such as property marking, bike marking and hold roadshows throughout the year at various locations.
We are based in Tonypandy Police Station and the number to contact is 743821, the Chairman is Mr. Ron Bundock, Vice Chairman is Mr. Ken Morgan and the Treasurer is Mr. Dan Callan.
We are fully committed in our endeavour to reduce crime in the valleys making them a more pleasant, safe and happy environment to both live and work in.
